The CLEVELAND C55576 is a spiral flute bottoming tap designed for threading blind holes in ferrous and stainless steel workpieces. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction in demanding production and maintenance applications. The 10-32 UNC thread form, combined with a 52-degree helix angle and fast flute style, efficiently evacuates chips upward out of the hole during the tapping cycle. With a 2B class of fit and H3 thread limit, this tap produces threads to standard commercial tolerances. Licensed machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance mechanics reach for this tap when threading into blind holes where through-hole chip ejection is not an option.
The C55576 is suited for blind hole threading operations in stainless steel and steel. Its bottoming chamfer allows threads to be cut nearly to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the correct choice when thread engagement depth is critical. The 3-flute right-hand spiral configuration with right-hand thread direction is compatible with standard CNC machining centers, drill presses, and tapping heads equipped for 10-32 work. Typical applications include fabrication shops, MRO environments, and precision manufacturing where consistent 10-32 UNC thread quality is required in steel and stainless steel components.
Designed for blind hole threading of 10-32 UNC threads in steel and stainless steel materials. Compatible with standard tapping chucks, CNC rigid tapping, and hand-tapping setups that accept a 0.194-inch shank diameter.
Secure the workpiece fully before tapping to prevent movement. Use a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material, particularly when working with stainless steel, to prevent galling and tap breakage. Ensure the drill bit used produces the correct tap drill diameter for a 10-32 UNC thread before beginning the tapping operation. Verify spindle alignment with the hole axis on machine setups to avoid tap deflection and thread quality issues.
