The CLEVELAND C55416 is a spiral point tap designed for through-hole threading operations in ferrous and hard metals. Built from high speed steel with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) coating, it is engineered for improved wear resistance and longer tool life compared to uncoated HSS taps. The tap features a plug chamfer, 2-flute construction, a D4 thread limit, and a 2B class of fit. With an M4 x 0.7 thread size and right-hand thread direction, it produces metric threads in the M4 pitch range. Overall length is 2.125 inches with a 0.38-inch thread length. Machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians install this tap in manual or CNC tapping applications.
This tap is suited for through-hole threading in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel workpieces. The spiral point geometry pushes chips ahead of the cutting edge, keeping the flutes clear during production runs. It is appropriate for both manual tapping with a tap handle or T-handle wrench and for machine tapping on vertical mills, drill presses, and CNC machining centers equipped with a tapping cycle. The 2B class of fit makes it compatible with standard metric fasteners.
Designed for through-hole threading applications in cast iron, stainless steel, and steel. Compatible with standard M4 x 0.7 thread form per UNF conventions and suitable for use with tap handles, tapping heads, and CNC tapping cycles that accept the corresponding shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a tap wrench, tapping arm, or machine tapping fixture. Always use cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material, particularly when threading stainless steel. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is aligned perpendicular to the drilled hole before starting. Do not reverse the tap under power without a torque-limiting or tension-compression floating holder to avoid breakage.
