The CLEVELAND C55310 is a spiral point plug tap designed for through-hole threading in metalworking applications. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it cuts a 10-32 UNF thread profile with a right-hand direction and an H3 thread limit. The two-flute spiral point geometry pushes chips forward ahead of the cutting action, making it well suited for threading through-holes where chip evacuation is a priority. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a thread length of 0.5 inches and a shank diameter of 0.194 inches. The plug chamfer provides a balanced entry for production and maintenance threading tasks.
This tap is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, and aluminum, covering a wide range of common through-hole threading jobs in manufacturing, maintenance, and repair environments. It carries a Class 2B fit designation and an H3 thread limit, which are standard tolerances for general-purpose UNF fastener applications. The TiN finish extends tool life and reduces friction during the cut. Machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance mechanics working on light to medium-duty metalwork will find this tap suitable for both manual and machine tapping setups.
Designed for through-hole threading operations requiring a 10-32 UNF thread form in alloy steel, carbon steel, and aluminum. Suitable for use with standard tapping machines, drill presses, and hand tap wrenches configured for right-hand cutting.
This tap should be installed and operated by qualified machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with tapping procedures and speeds for the workpiece material. Always secure the workpiece and ensure proper alignment before beginning the threading operation. Use an appropriate cutting fluid or lubricant for the material being tapped to reduce heat and extend tool life. Do not reverse direction while the tap is engaged in the hole without first disengaging the cutting pressure.
