The CLEVELAND C55236 is a 9/16-12 UNC bottoming hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in blind holes and through-holes. It is ground from high speed steel (HSS) and coated with titanium nitride (TiN) for extended tool life and reduced friction against the workpiece. The 4-flute straight-flute geometry provides rigidity and clean chip control in a wide range of metalworking applications. With a thread limit of H3 and a Class 2B fit, this tap produces threads to standard tolerance for general mechanical assembly. It is sized for use in manual tapping operations by machinists, maintenance technicians, and toolroom professionals.
This tap is suited for blind hole and through-hole threading operations in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer allows threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the preferred choice for close-tolerance applications where full thread depth is required. It is part of the Cleveland Series 1003TN and is intended for hand-tapping setups, though it may also be used in low-speed tapping fixtures.
