The CLEVELAND C55208 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 10-24 UNC internal threads in both blind and through-hole applications. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction compared to uncoated taps. The bottoming chamfer allows threading to the bottom of blind holes where plug or taper taps cannot reach. With 4 flutes and an H3 thread limit, this tap holds close tolerance fits and is well suited for production threading work. Overall length is 2.375 inches with a thread length of 0.5 inches.
This tap is used in manual threading operations across machine shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments. The bottoming configuration makes it a secondary or finishing tap in blind-hole sequences, typically following a plug tap to establish the thread entry. It is appropriate for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces. A right-hand thread direction is standard for conventional fastener applications.
Designed for blind-hole and through-hole threading in 10-24 UNC applications. Part of the Cleveland 1003TN series of TiN-coated hand taps.
Hand taps in this size range are typically installed using a standard tap wrench or T-handle by a machinist or maintenance technician. Secure the workpiece firmly before tapping and apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to improve thread quality and tap life. For blind-hole work, use this bottoming tap as the final step after a plug tap has established the thread entry. Back the tap out periodically to break and clear chips and avoid tap breakage.
