The CLEVELAND C55200 is a 6-32 UNC straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in both blind and through holes. It features a bottoming chamfer, which allows threading closer to the bottom of a blind hole compared to taper or plug style taps. The tap is manufactured from high speed steel with a TiN (titanium nitride) coating that increases surface hardness and reduces friction during cutting. With 3 flutes and a right-hand thread direction, it cuts a Class 2B thread to an H3 thread limit. Overall length is 2 inches with a thread length of 11/16 inches. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians use this tap by hand or with a tap wrench in production and repair applications.
The C55200 is suited for threading operations in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The bottoming style makes it the final tap in a progression sequence when maximum thread depth in a blind hole is required. It is commonly used in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments where precise 6-32 UNC internal threads are needed. The TiN coating extends tool life in higher-volume threading tasks and helps reduce galling when working aluminum or stainless steel.
Designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for blind-hole and through-hole threading applications in the CLEVELAND Series 1003TN.
This tap is installed and driven by hand using a standard tap wrench. Always secure the workpiece and ensure the starting hole diameter is correct for a 6-32 UNC tap before beginning. Apply a cutting fluid or tapping compound appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat and improve thread finish. When used as the final tap in a blind hole sequence, advance carefully to avoid bottoming out and breaking the tool.
