The CLEVELAND C55146 is a 3/4-16 UNF plug chamfer hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers extended tool life and reduced friction during tapping operations. The four-flute straight flute geometry provides good chip control in a wide range of workpiece materials. At 4.25 inches overall length with a 2-inch thread length, this tap fits standard tap wrench drives via its 11/16-inch square drive end. It is sized to cut Class 3B threads to an H3 thread limit, making it suitable for close-tolerance fastener applications in production and maintenance machining environments.
This tap is intended for use in metalworking applications across general manufacturing, maintenance, repair, and toolroom settings. It is suited for threading alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces. Right-hand thread direction makes it compatible with standard tap wrench and tapping head setups. The plug chamfer style — with a moderate lead of approximately 3 to 5 threads — makes it useful for both starting threads in through-holes and threading blind holes where adequate clearance exists at the bottom of the hole.
Designed for use in standard tap wrenches and tapping heads accepting a 0.44-inch square drive. Suitable for 3/4-16 UNF blind hole and through-hole threading applications in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. Part of the CLEVELAND Series 1002TN.
This tap should be installed and used by machinists or maintenance technicians familiar with hand and machine tapping procedures. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is started square to the hole to prevent tap breakage. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material being threaded. For blind hole applications, verify sufficient thread depth clearance before tapping to avoid bottoming the tap under load.
