The CLEVELAND C55132 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it offers improved wear resistance and reduced friction compared to uncoated taps. The plug chamfer — with several lead threads tapered — makes it well suited for both through-hole and blind-hole threading applications. Four flutes provide adequate chip clearance while maintaining tool rigidity. The tap carries a Class 3B thread fit at an H3 thread limit, meeting close-tolerance threading requirements common in production and maintenance machining environments. Installation is by hand or through a tapping fixture.
This tap is used in job shops, maintenance and repair operations, and production machining environments where 1/2-13 UNC threads must be cut or chased. It is appropriate for blind-hole and through-hole applications in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The plug chamfer style makes it the standard choice when starting a tap in a pre-drilled hole where the tap cannot be run completely through from one side. It belongs to the Cleveland Series 1002TN product line.
Designed for cutting 1/2-13 UNC internal threads in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel; compatible with both blind-hole and through-hole threading applications per Series 1002TN design specifications.
This tap is installed by machinists and maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench, T-handle, or tapping fixture. Always use the correct tap drill size for a 1/2-13 UNC thread before tapping. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and apply appropriate cutting fluid for the material being threaded. Back the tap off periodically to break chips and prevent binding, particularly in blind holes.
