The CLEVELAND C55106 is a 8-36 UNF straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes. Built from high speed steel with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this plug-chamfer tap provides improved wear resistance and tool life compared to uncoated HSS taps. It runs a right-hand thread direction with a 4-flute straight-flute geometry and an H2 thread limit, making it well-suited for producing Class 2B and 3B thread fits. The overall length is 2.125 inches, with a thread length of 0.38 inches (3/4 inches nominal). Licensed machinists, tool-and-die workers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in hand tapping or low-speed machine applications.
This tap is appropriate for production and maintenance threading operations on a wide range of workpiece materials. It is rated for use in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The plug chamfer style provides a gradual lead-in that works in both blind and through-hole applications, making it a versatile choice for general shop use where 8-36 UNF threads are required in light-to-medium-duty assemblies.

Install in a suitable tap wrench for hand tapping or a tapping head for low-speed machine use. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured before starting the thread. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. Always back the tap off periodically to break chips, particularly in blind-hole applications.
