The CLEVELAND C54925 is a 1-8 UNC bottoming hand tap machined from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish. It is designed for cutting internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With 4 straight flutes and a right-hand thread direction, this tap is suited for manual tapping operations in machine shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments. It carries a Class of Fit 3B designation and a Thread Limit of H4, making it appropriate for standard tolerance threaded assemblies requiring consistent fit.
This tap is used in applications requiring a full-depth thread close to the bottom of a blind hole or through a workpiece. Its bottoming chamfer produces threads nearly to the base of the hole, making it the correct choice when thread engagement must start as close to the bottom as possible. Machinists and tooling technicians install this tap by hand or with a tap wrench in conjunction with proper cutting fluid to extend tool life and maintain thread quality.
Designed for threading alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces requiring a 1-8 UNC internal thread to Class 3B tolerances.
This tap is installed by machinists or tooling technicians using a calibrated tap wrench or suitable hand-tapping fixture. Power down any associated machinery and secure the workpiece before beginning the tapping operation. Always use an appropriate cutting fluid or tapping oil matched to the workpiece material to reduce friction and prevent tap breakage. Do not force the tap; back off periodically to clear chips, especially in blind hole applications.
