The CLEVELAND C54799 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting internal M16x1.50 metric fine threads in both blind and through-hole applications. Built from bright, uncoated high speed steel, this bottoming tap features a minimal chamfer length that allows threading to the bottom of a blind hole. The 4-flute design provides balanced cutting action and efficient chip clearance during hand or machine tapping operations. With an overall length of 3.813 inches and a thread length of 1.81 inches, the C54799 is sized for production and maintenance threading tasks performed by machinists and tool-and-die technicians.
This tap is suited for threading operations in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials including alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. It carries a Class of Fit designation of 6H with a D6 thread limit, making it appropriate for standard metric fine thread tolerance requirements in both job shop and production environments. It is used in blind-hole and through-hole threading scenarios where a bottoming chamfer is required to achieve full thread depth close to the hole bottom.
Designed for blind-hole and through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces requiring M16x1.50 metric fine internal threads to 6H tolerance. Part of Cleveland Series 1003.
Tap installation is performed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a standard tap wrench or tapping fixture. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is started perpendicular to the hole face to prevent cross-threading. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material before and during tapping. For blind holes, verify hole depth is sufficient to accommodate both the tap chamfer and the required thread length before beginning the operation.
