The CLEVELAND C54691 is an M12x1.75 bottoming hand tap ground from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. It is designed for cutting right-hand internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes where the tap must reach close to the bottom of the bore. The 4-flute straight-flute geometry handles a range of workpiece materials and provides consistent chip clearance during hand tapping. With an overall length of 3.375 inches and a thread length of 1.66 inches, this tap suits general-purpose metric coarse threading work in a machine shop, maintenance, or fabrication environment. Machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
This tap is suited for threading blind and through-holes to a Class 6H fit with a D6 thread limit, meeting Metric Coarse standards for M12x1.75 applications. Typical use cases include tapping threaded fastener holes in fabricated assemblies, repair tapping stripped metric hardware, and production threading in materials such as alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. It belongs to Cleveland Series 1003 and is sold individually.
Designed for cutting M12x1.75 Metric Coarse internal threads in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces requiring a 6H class of fit.
This tap is intended for use by machinists and skilled tradespeople familiar with hand tapping and low-speed machine tapping procedures. Always ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the tap is properly aligned with the hole axis before beginning the threading operation. Use an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Because this is a bottoming tap with minimal chamfer, always start the thread with a taper or plug tap before finishing with this tap in blind-hole applications.
