The CLEVELAND C54675 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting M12x1.25 metric fine internal threads in a range of metallic workpieces. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap provides the hardness and wear resistance needed for production tapping without additional surface treatment. It features a taper chamfer, which allows gradual thread engagement and makes it well-suited for starting threads in both blind and through-hole applications. The tap carries a 6H class of fit with a D5 thread limit, offering the tight dimensional control that machinists and toolroom professionals require for standard metric fine threading work. Overall length is 3.375 inches with a thread length of 1.66 inches.
This tap is used in manual tapping operations across general machining, toolroom, and maintenance environments. The taper chamfer style is appropriate for initiating threads from scratch in either blind holes or through-holes where gradual load distribution is preferred. Its 4-flute straight-flute design handles chip management in a variety of short-chipping materials. It is sized for use with a standard tap wrench matched to its 9.32 mm shank diameter and 7/16 inch square drive.
Designed for cutting M12x1.25 metric fine internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces in blind-hole and through-hole threading applications.
This tap is installed by machinists, toolroom technicians, and maintenance professionals using a standard hand tap wrench. Before tapping, ensure the hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for M12x1.25 metric fine threads and that the workpiece is securely fixtured. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tool life. Do not force the tap if resistance increases suddenly, as this can indicate chip packing or improper alignment.
