The CLEVELAND C54654 is a 7/16-14 UNC bottoming hand tap ground from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish. It is designed for cutting internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes. The 4-flute straight flute geometry provides balanced cutting action, and the bottoming chamfer allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. Overall length is 3.156 inches with a thread length of 0.880 inches. This tap is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians performing precision threading operations.
The C54654 is suited for production and maintenance threading applications in both shop and field environments. It cuts a Class 2B fit to the H3 thread limit, making it appropriate for standard commercial-tolerance fastener assemblies. The bottoming chamfer type makes it the preferred choice when thread engagement must extend as deep as possible in a blind hole. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel.
Designed for blind hole and through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces. Fits standard 7/16-14 UNC thread forms per the Class 2B fit specification.
This tap is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician using a standard tap wrench or tapping chuck. Shut down and lock out the workpiece machine before hand-tapping operations. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Avoid forcing the tap — back off periodically to break chips, particularly in blind holes.
