The CLEVELAND C54624 is a 4-flute straight flute hand tap designed for cutting internal metric coarse threads in both blind and through-hole applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it cuts M10 x 1.50 threads to a 6H class of fit with a D6 thread limit. The taper chamfer guides the tap into the workpiece gradually, reducing the torque required to start the thread. Overall length is 2.938 inches, with a thread length of 1.25 inches (31.75 mm). This tap is intended for manual or machine-assisted tapping operations performed by machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance professionals.
The C54624 is suited for threading operations in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The taper chamfer style makes it a practical choice when starting a new thread in a pre-drilled hole, particularly in production environments or toolroom setups where consistent metric coarse thread form is required. It carries a 9.68 mm shank diameter, making it compatible with standard tap wrenches and holders sized for that shank. The straight flute geometry works well in through-hole applications where chip clearance is not a limiting factor.
Designed for use in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces requiring M10 x 1.50 metric coarse internal threads. Fits standard tap wrenches and holders accepting a 9.68 mm shank diameter.
This tap is installed by machinists or maintenance technicians using a tap wrench or tapping fixture. Ensure the workpiece is securely fixtured and the pilot hole is drilled to the correct tap drill diameter for M10 x 1.50 before beginning. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread quality. Back off periodically during tapping to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind hole applications.
