All three taps are ground from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright finish and feature a four-flute design that clears chips efficiently during hand or machine tapping. Tapping operations should be performed by a qualified machinist or trained technician following standard shop safety practices. Always secure the workpiece firmly before beginning and use an appropriate cutting fluid to extend tap life and improve thread quality. Begin with the taper tap to establish the thread lead, progress to the plug tap, and use the bottoming tap only when threading to the bottom of a blind hole. Do not force a tap past its cutting resistance, as HSS taps are susceptible to breakage under excessive torque.
