The CLEVELAND C54355 is a 10-32 UNF straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in both blind holes and through-holes. Made from high speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap runs right-hand threads to a Class 2B fit with an H3 thread limit. It measures 2.375 inches overall with a 0.5 inch thread length, making it well-suited for shallow blind-hole applications where full thread engagement close to the hole bottom is required. The bottoming chamfer — typically 1 to 2 threads of lead — allows threading to the bottom of a blind bore after a taper or plug tap has started the thread.
This tap is part of the Cleveland Series 1003 and is used in general machining, fabrication, and maintenance applications. It is appropriate for hand tapping or low-speed machine tapping in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The 3-flute straight-flute design provides good chip clearance and is a standard choice for moderate-depth threading in these materials. Machinists, tool and die workers, and maintenance technicians commonly use this tap for repair threading and new production work.
Designed for cutting 10-32 UNF internal threads in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel in both blind-hole and through-hole applications.
This tap is installed by hand or with a low-speed tapping machine using a tap handle or chuck sized to the 0.194 inch shank diameter and 0.152 inch square drive. Always apply a suitable cutting fluid for the work material before and during tapping to reduce friction and extend tap life. For blind holes, use a taper or plug tap first to start the thread, then finish with this bottoming tap. Never force a tap against the bottom of a hole — back off periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage.
