The CLEVELAND C54225 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting 6-32 unified coarse (UNC) internal threads. Built from high speed steel with a bright uncoated finish, it features a bottoming chamfer that allows threading close to the bottom of a blind hole. The 3-flute design provides chip clearance and stable cutting in a range of workpiece materials. Overall length is 2.0 inches with a thread length of 0.38 inches. The H3 thread limit and Class 2B fit make it well-suited for standard-tolerance fastener applications. Machinists, toolmakers, and maintenance technicians use this tap in both manual tapping operations and low-speed machine setups.
The C54225 is rated for blind hole threading and through-hole threading. Its bottoming chamfer leaves only 1-2 thread leads of chamfer length, making it the correct choice when threads must extend as close as possible to the base of a stopped hole. Compatible material applications include alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel. It is part of Cleveland Series 1003, a standard toolroom tap line commonly stocked for general machining and maintenance environments.
Designed for cutting 6-32 UNC internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel. Suitable for both blind hole and through-hole threading applications.
This tap is installed and driven by a tap wrench or T-handle in manual operations, or held in a tapping head or drill press chuck for machine use. Secure the workpiece before tapping and apply cutting fluid appropriate to the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve thread finish. For blind holes, use a bottoming tap only after a taper or plug tap has already started the thread series to the required depth. Follow applicable shop safety procedures and ensure proper alignment to avoid tap breakage.
