The CLEVELAND C54132 is a straight-flute hand tap designed for cutting M2.5x0.45 metric coarse internal threads in a range of ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from bright, uncoated high speed steel, it carries a plug chamfer for gradual thread engagement and is ground to a 6H class of fit with a D3 thread limit for consistent, on-tolerance results. Overall length is 1.813 inches, with a 0.500-inch thread length and a 0.141-inch shank diameter. The 3-flute straight-flute geometry suits hand tapping operations in both blind and through-hole applications where chip control and alignment are critical.
This tap is suited to machine shops, maintenance and repair operations, and toolroom work wherever M2.5 metric coarse threads must be cut by hand. The plug chamfer style makes it appropriate as a starting tap where a taper is not needed, or as a follow-up tap after a taper tap in deeper blind holes. Typical install scenarios include threading small fastener holes in production fixtures, brackets, and enclosure components.
Designed for blind-hole and through-hole threading in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces requiring M2.5x0.45 metric coarse threads.
This tap is intended for hand tapping operations performed by machinists or toolroom technicians using a standard tap wrench. Secure the workpiece firmly before threading and apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material. Keep the tap aligned perpendicular to the workpiece surface throughout the operation to avoid thread distortion or tap breakage. Back the tap off periodically to break chips, particularly in blind-hole applications.
