The CLEVELAND C54091 is a 2-56 bottoming hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in metalworking applications. Built from high speed steel with a bright, uncoated finish, this tap is suited for both blind hole and through-hole threading operations. It features a 3-flute straight flute geometry and a right-hand thread direction, conforming to UNC thread standards with a 2B class of fit and H2 thread limit. The overall length is 1.75 inches, and the thread length is 0.44 inches. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians reach for this tap when close-tolerance internal threading is required on small-diameter fastener applications.
This tap is used in precision machining environments including job shops, maintenance facilities, and production floors. It is appropriate for threading blind holes and through-holes in materials such as alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel. The bottoming chamfer style allows threads to be cut close to the bottom of a blind hole, making it the right choice when thread engagement depth is critical. It belongs to Cleveland Series 1003 and is sold individually.
Designed for cutting 2-56 UNC internal threads in alloy steel, aluminum, carbon steel, and free-machining stainless steel workpieces. Suitable for use in standard tap handles and machine tapping setups sized for the 0.141-inch shank diameter.
This tap is installed and driven by a qualified machinist or tool operator using a properly sized tap handle or tapping fixture. Before tapping, confirm the correct drill size has been used to produce the pilot hole per standard 2-56 tap drill charts. Apply appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to reduce friction and extend tap life. Never force a tap against resistance — back it off periodically to break chips and prevent tap breakage, especially in blind hole applications.
