The CLEVELAND C54074 is an M2x0.40 metric coarse hand tap designed for cutting internal threads in drilled holes. Built from bright-finish high speed steel, it features a plug chamfer and three straight flutes for efficient chip evacuation during manual tapping operations. The right-hand thread direction and 6H class of fit make it suitable for standard metric fastener applications. With an overall length of 44.45 mm (1.75 inches) and a thread length of 0.44 inches, this tap is sized for small-diameter precision work. It carries a D3 thread limit, indicating a ground thread tolerance appropriate for close-tolerance metric threading. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this Series 1002 tap for hand-tapping in both blind and through-hole configurations.
The C54074 is intended for blind hole and through-hole threading in a range of metallic workpiece materials. It performs in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. The straight-flute geometry and plug chamfer make it best suited for through-hole threading or blind holes where chip control is managed by the operator. This tap is used in job shops, maintenance environments, and production settings where M2 metric threads are required in small components, fixtures, or assemblies.
Designed for use in blind hole and through-hole threading applications in alloy steel, carbon steel, aluminum, and free-machining stainless steel. Suitable for standard M2x0.40 metric coarse thread requirements.
This tap is intended for hand tapping and should be used with an appropriate tap wrench sized for the shank diameter. Before tapping, ensure the drilled hole is properly sized per M2x0.40 tap drill charts and the workpiece is securely fixtured. Apply cutting fluid appropriate for the workpiece material to reduce heat and extend tap life. Reverse the tap periodically during hand tapping to break chips, particularly in blind hole operations.
