The CLEVELAND C52174 is a cobalt double-end square end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this tool delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS end mills. It features four right-hand spiral flutes with a 30-degree helix angle, a centercutting geometry that allows plunge cutting, and a straight-cylindrical shank with a Weldon flat for secure tool holding. The 0.25 inch cutting diameter and 0.625 inch length of cut make it well suited for slotting, profiling, and light pocket milling on a range of ferrous materials.
This end mill is rated for use on high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and general carbon and alloy steels. The HDC-4C series is built for shops that run difficult-to-machine materials where tool life under heat is a priority. The double-end configuration provides two usable cutting ends, extending the effective service life per tool. It is appropriate for use in manual mills, CNC machining centers, and knee mills where a 0.375 inch shank diameter is compatible with the collet or tool holder in use.
Designed for use with standard 0.375 inch collets, end mill holders, or Weldon-style set-screw holders on vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers. Rated for cutting high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel workpiece materials per the HDC-4C series specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the shank fully into the holder and tighten the set screw against the Weldon flat to the holder manufacturer's specification to prevent pull-out under load. Verify runout with a dial indicator before commencing a cut, particularly when working with stainless or high-temperature alloys where tool deflection accelerates wear.
