The CLEVELAND C52170 is a cobalt square end mill built for demanding metal removal in high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and general steel applications. Manufactured from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool runs a 0.125-inch cutting diameter with a 0.375-inch length of cut and a 30-degree helix angle. The four-flute spiral geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation while maintaining a strong core for stability under load. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole. The uncoated finish is well suited for applications where re-sharpening is planned.
The C52170 fits into a 0.375-inch straight-cylindrical or Weldon flat shank holder, making it compatible with standard end mill holders and set-screw collet chucks common in machining centers and manual mills. With a 3.0625-inch overall length and regular-length classification, it is appropriate for general-purpose milling of ferrous and heat-resistant alloys in both job shop and production environments. Machinists working with aerospace-grade materials and 300-series or 400-series stainless regularly reach for cobalt tooling in this diameter range. This is an HDC-4C series tool.

Installation is performed by qualified machinists following standard toolroom practices. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and power is locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Tighten set screws or collet nuts to the holder manufacturer's specified torque using the correct wrench to prevent tool pullout under cutting loads. Verify runout at the tool tip with a dial indicator before engaging the workpiece, particularly when working with tight-tolerance features or hard alloy materials.
