The CLEVELAND C52163 is a cobalt double-end square end mill designed for precision milling in demanding metalworking applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, it delivers superior heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The C52163 features a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 13/16 inch length of cut, and a 30-degree spiral flute helix angle that promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. With two flutes and a centercutting geometry, it can plunge directly into the workpiece as well as perform peripheral milling passes. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals rely on this series for reliable performance in production environments.
The C52163 is suited for milling high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel workpieces where tool longevity and edge retention are critical. The double-end design doubles usable tool life before replacement. The straight cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates standard end mill holders and set-screw-style toolholders. Its regular-length profile fits most knee mills, vertical machining centers, and CNC milling setups where a 0.5 inch shank is appropriate. The HDC-2 series targets shops cutting difficult ferrous and exotic alloys where standard carbide or uncoated HSS tooling falls short.
Rated for primary workpiece materials including high-temperature alloys (material code S), stainless steel (material code M), and steel (material code P). Fits standard 0.5 inch end mill holders and Weldon-flat-style collet chucks.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully powered down and locked out per applicable shop safety procedures. Secure the Weldon flat against the set screw in the toolholder before tightening to the manufacturer-specified torque for the holder being used. Verify runout with a dial indicator after chucking to prevent premature edge wear. Apply an appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to manage heat buildup during use.
