The CLEVELAND C52153 is a cobalt square end mill designed for high-performance metal removal in demanding machining applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this double-end tool features a 30-degree spiral flute geometry and a centercutting design that allows plunge cuts without a pre-drilled pilot hole. The 3/16 inch cutting diameter pairs with a 7/16 inch length of cut, making it well suited for slotting, profiling, and light pocketing operations in tight workspaces. It is installed and operated by machinists and toolroom technicians working on manual or CNC milling equipment.
This end mill is optimized for cutting high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and carbon and alloy steels. The HDC-2 series designation indicates a heavy-duty cobalt construction that holds up in difficult-to-machine materials where standard high-speed steel tooling loses edge retention. The 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat provides a secure grip in standard end mill holders and collet chucks. Overall length is 3-1/4 inches, keeping the tool rigid and minimizing deflection during cut.
Designed for use in standard 3/8 inch end mill holders and collet chucks on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials include high-temperature alloys, stainless steel, and steel (Material Codes M, P, S).
Installation and tool changes should be performed with the spindle fully powered off and locked out per shop safety procedures. Secure the Weldon flat against the set screw in the holder to the tool manufacturer's recommended seating depth before tightening. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates edge wear on small-diameter end mills. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to maximize tool life and surface finish quality.
