The CLEVELAND C49124 is a carbide-tipped taper length drill bit designed for demanding metal cutting applications where standard length drills lack reach. Sized at 7/16 inch (0.4375 inches) in diameter with a 118-degree standard point angle, this drill delivers clean, accurate entry in steel, cast iron, and hard alloys. The gold finish indicates a surface treatment applied after grinding. A web-thinned, tapered web configuration reduces thrust at the point and improves chip evacuation. Right-hand spiral flutes with a regular helix move chips efficiently away from the cutting zone. Licensed electricians, millwrights, pipefitters, and maintenance machinists reach for taper length drills when hole depth exceeds the capacity of a jobber-length bit.
This drill fits applications requiring extended reach through structural steel, thick plate, angle iron, pipe flanges, or deep-section workpieces common in mechanical, industrial, and heavy-maintenance environments. The tanged shank seats securely in a taper-shank chuck or sleeve on a drill press or magnetic drill, providing positive drive without slippage under load. With 4.625 inches of flute length and a 7.25-inch overall length, the C49124 handles deep-hole work that shorter drills cannot complete in a single pass.
Designed as an OEM-style taper length drill bit suitable for use in drill presses, radial arm drills, and magnetic base drills equipped with a compatible taper-shank chuck or sleeve accepting a 0.4375-inch tanged shank.
Installation and use of taper length drill bits should be performed by qualified machinists, millwrights, or maintenance technicians familiar with taper-shank tooling. Ensure the machine spindle and any adapter sleeve are clean and free of debris before seating the tanged shank. Power down and lock out the drill press or machine before changing tooling. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant for the workpiece material, and secure the workpiece firmly before drilling to prevent rotation or movement under load.
