The CLEVELAND C46441 is an interchangeable pilot counterbore designed for precision counterboring operations in a wide range of metalworking applications. Built from high-speed steel (HSS) with a bright, uncoated finish, this tool delivers reliable cutting performance on alloy tool steel, aluminum, cast iron, low-carbon steel, and medium-carbon steel. It features a 13/16 inch counterbore diameter, a 5/8 inch straight shank, and 3 flutes with a right-hand cutting direction. The overall length is 5-3/8 inches, with a shank length of 3-7/8 inches. The interchangeable pilot design accepts a 1/4 inch pilot shank, allowing the body to be reused with different pilot sizes.
This counterbore is suited for production and maintenance machining environments where bolt-hole seat preparation is required. Typical applications include creating flat-bottomed recesses for socket head cap screws and similar fasteners in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. It is used by machinists, tool and die makers, and maintenance technicians working with manual mills, drill presses, or CNC equipment requiring a straight-shank toolholder. The HSS construction handles interrupted cuts and moderate feed rates without requiring carbide tooling.
Designed as an OEM-style interchangeable pilot counterbore compatible with standard straight-shank toolholders and drill press chucks accepting a 5/8 inch shank. Accepts 1/4 inch interchangeable pilots sold separately.
Installation and use of this tool should be performed by qualified machinists or maintenance personnel familiar with rotating cutting tools. Secure the straight shank firmly in the toolholder or chuck before operation, and verify pilot fit before engaging the workpiece. Always power down and lock out the machine spindle before changing pilots or inspecting the tool. Use appropriate cutting fluid for the workpiece material to extend tool life and improve surface finish.
