The CLEVELAND C46173 is a single-end, 3-flute countersink designed for right-hand cutting in carbon steel and cast iron. It features a 5/8-inch head diameter and a 120-degree included angle, producing clean, burr-free countersunk seats for flat-head fasteners and deburring operations. The straight cylindrical 3/8-inch shank fits standard drill chucks and collet holders. The tool is manufactured from high speed steel and finished with an oxide coating that provides basic lubricity and corrosion resistance during dry or lightly lubricated cuts. Machinists and maintenance technicians in metalworking, fabrication, and general MRO environments are the primary users of this tool.
This countersink is suited for bench drill press, milling machine, and hand drill applications where a 120-degree seat angle is required. The 3-flute geometry balances cutting speed with finish quality on ferrous materials including carbon steel and cast iron. The single-end design means the cutting head is not reversible, and no pilot is included, so the operator centers the tool using the workpiece hole or a separate piloted guide. It is well suited for low-to-moderate production countersinking tasks in job shops, maintenance facilities, and fabrication environments.
Designed for countersinking operations in carbon steel and cast iron workpieces where a 120-degree included angle is required. Fits any drill press, milling machine, or hand drill accepting a 3/8-inch straight shank.
This tool is installed by a machinist or maintenance technician. Secure the workpiece firmly before operation and ensure the spindle is fully stopped before changing or adjusting the tool in the chuck. Always use appropriate cutting fluid or lubrication as required by the base material and machine setup. Inspect the cutting edges for wear or chipping before each use and replace if the flute geometry is compromised.
