The CLEVELAND C46163 is a single-end countersink designed for deburring and seat preparation in carbon steel and cast iron workpieces. It features a 1/2-inch head diameter with an 82-degree included angle — the standard angle for flat-head fastener seating — and three flutes for smooth, chatter-resistant cutting. The straight cylindrical shank measures 1/4 inch in diameter, fitting standard drill chucks and quick-change holders. An oxide finish provides baseline lubricity and corrosion resistance. This tool is installed and used by machinists, tool-and-die professionals, and maintenance technicians working with hand drills, drill presses, or CNC setups.
The C46163 is suited for countersinking operations in carbon steel and cast iron in both production and job-shop environments. The right-hand cutting direction matches standard drill rotation. The 3-flute geometry reduces vibration compared to single-flute designs, making it appropriate for hand-held drilling as well as machine-guided work. No pilot is included, so the operator or setup controls centerline alignment. Typical applications include preparing holes for flat-head screws, deburring drilled holes, and chamfering entry edges before threading.
Rated for use in carbon steel and cast iron. The 1/4-inch straight cylindrical shank is compatible with standard drill chucks and quick-change collet holders accepting 1/4-inch round shanks.
A licensed machinist or qualified maintenance technician should secure the shank firmly in a properly sized chuck or collet before use. Ensure the workpiece is clamped or fixtured to prevent rotation during the countersinking operation. Run at appropriate speeds for the material being cut — excessive speed in hard materials accelerates tool wear. Inspect the cutting edges before each use; damaged flutes produce uneven seats and should not be used.
