The CLEVELAND C43218 is a 6-flute square end mill designed for metal removal in milling applications requiring a short-length, high-flute-count tool. Manufactured from M42 powdered metal (PM), this tool offers improved wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel. It features a 37-degree helix angle with right-hand cut and right-hand flute spiral geometry. The stub-length design keeps the tool rigid under load, reducing deflection during aggressive cuts. Centercutting capability allows plunge entry directly into workpiece material. This end mill suits machinists, tool-and-die shops, and production milling environments where repeatable performance in ferrous and hard materials is required.
The C43218 is suited for milling operations on steel, stainless steel, and other ferrous alloys in CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The PM-4 series stub configuration is a common choice for face milling, slotting, and peripheral milling where tool overhang must be minimized. The 0.75-inch diameter and matching 0.75-inch shank allow direct installation into standard ER or Weldon-style toolholders without a reduction collet. Uncoated finish is standard; this suits applications where cutting fluid or coolant is used consistently during operation.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for 0.75-inch straight-shank toolholders including ER collet chucks and Weldon-style end mill holders used in CNC and manual milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following shop safety protocols. Ensure the machine spindle is fully powered down and locked out before inserting or removing the tool from the holder. Seat the shank to the minimum recommended engagement depth per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a production cut to confirm proper seating and holder condition.
