The CLEVELAND C42864 is a 4-flute cobalt square end mill designed for milling ferrous and difficult-to-machine materials in machining centers and manual mills. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this end mill runs at elevated temperatures without losing hardness, making it well suited for stainless steel, hardened alloys, and high-nickel materials. The cutting diameter is 0.625 inches with a 2.5-inch length of cut and a 4.625-inch overall length. A 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces chatter across a range of feed rates and depths of cut. The centercutting design allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled pilot hole.
This end mill fits standard milling operations where a longer reach or deeper pocket depth is required. The long-length classification and 2.5-inch length of cut make it appropriate for deeper slots, stepped pockets, and contour work where a standard-length end mill cannot reach. It is uncoated and intended for use with cutting fluid or coolant. The 0.625-inch straight shank fits ER collets, end mill holders, and Weldon-style tool holders of the corresponding bore size. Series HGC-4C is a cobalt long-length line offered for professional machinists and tool room applications.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling solution for use in standard 0.625-inch bore end mill holders, ER collets, and Weldon-style holders on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers. Part of the CLEVELAND HGC-4C long cobalt series.
A qualified machinist or toolroom technician should install and operate this end mill. Secure the shank fully within the tool holder to the minimum engagement depth before torquing the holder to specification. Always confirm spindle rotation direction matches the right-hand cut geometry before engaging the workpiece. Use appropriate cutting fluid or coolant to maintain tool life when machining ferrous or high-alloy materials.
