The CLEVELAND C42645 is a 2-flute cobalt ball end mill designed for finishing operations in stainless steel and steel applications. Built from M42 cobalt high-speed steel, this single-end mill offers improved heat and wear resistance compared to standard HSS tooling. The 0.1875-inch diameter cutting geometry and 30-degree right-hand spiral helix promote smooth chip evacuation and reduced cutting forces. The uncoated finish makes it well suited for materials where coating adhesion or thermal buildup is a concern. Licensed machinists and tooling professionals use this series for tight-tolerance profiling, contouring, and finishing passes where surface finish quality is the priority.
The C42645 belongs to the HGC-2B series, a regular-length line engineered primarily for finishing cuts in stainless steel and carbon steel. With a 0.5-inch length of cut and a 3/8-inch shank diameter, it fits standard collet chucks and end mill holders found on vertical machining centers, CNC mills, and manual knee mills. The 2-3/8-inch overall length keeps deflection low during close-tolerance work. This tool is suited for job shops, maintenance departments, and production environments where consistent finish quality on ferrous materials is required.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard tooling option for use in 3/8-inch collet chucks, ER collets, and end mill holders on vertical machining centers and manual milling machines. Part of the Cleveland HGC-2B series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before changing tooling. Seat the 3/8-inch shank fully into the holder and torque the collet nut or set screw to the tool holder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut, as excessive runout accelerates wear on small-diameter end mills.
