The CLEVELAND C42506 is a 4-flute square end mill designed for general-purpose milling in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built from M42 powdered metal, it delivers improved wear resistance and edge retention compared to standard high-speed steel. The cutting diameter is 0.3125 inches (5/16 inches) with a 3/4-inch length of cut and a 3/8-inch shank diameter. Overall length is 2-1/2 inches. The 37-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool with a spiral flute geometry and centercutting capability, making it suitable for both peripheral and plunge operations. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die technicians are the primary users.
The C42506 is suited for use in manual knee mills, CNC machining centers, and drill presses equipped for end milling. Its regular-length configuration fits standard toolholders and collet chucks accepting a 3/8-inch shank. The PM-4 series designation indicates a powdered metal alloy grade optimized for versatility across a range of workpiece materials including alloy steels, tool steels, and cast iron. The uncoated finish makes it straightforward to resharpen when edge wear occurs.
Designed as a direct-fit replacement or standard tooling selection for machining applications requiring a 3/8-inch shank, 5/16-inch diameter square end mill in the PM-4 series.
Installation is performed by machinists using appropriate collet chucks or end mill holders rated for the 3/8-inch shank diameter. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating the tool in the holder. Follow the machine tool manufacturer guidelines for feed rates and speeds appropriate to M42 tooling and the workpiece material being cut.
