The CLEVELAND C42297 is a 4-flute square end mill manufactured from high speed steel (HSS), designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. With a 0.25 inch cutting diameter, a 0.625 inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle, it delivers efficient chip evacuation and stable cutting performance. The left-hand cut and left-hand flute configuration make this tool purpose-built for specific spindle and fixturing setups where conventional right-hand tools are not appropriate. It is a centercutting design, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece. Machining professionals and tool room operators select this end mill for close-tolerance work across a range of materials.
This end mill is suited for milling operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in both manual and CNC machining environments. The straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates standard end mill holders and side-lock toolholders, making it a practical fit for typical shop setups. At 2.4375 inches overall length, it is a regular-length tool appropriate for general-purpose face milling, slotting, and profiling applications where reach extension is not required. The HG-4LL series designation identifies it within the Cleveland catalog as a left-hand, 4-flute general-purpose line.
Designed for use with standard 3/8 inch end mill holders and side-lock toolholders. Suited for machining cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel as noted in the HG-4LL series specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully powered down and the machine in a locked-out state per applicable safety procedures. Ensure the Weldon flat is properly aligned with the toolholder set screw before torquing. Confirm spindle rotation direction is compatible with the left-hand cut geometry of this tool before operation, as running a left-hand end mill in a standard right-hand spindle will damage the tool and workpiece.
