The CLEVELAND C42199 is a double-end ball end mill designed for precision milling operations in metalworking environments. Built from high speed steel (HSS), it delivers reliable performance across a range of ferrous and non-ferrous workpiece materials. The 0.5-inch mill diameter paired with a 13/16-inch length of cut makes it well suited for finishing passes where accurate ball-nose profiling is required. With a 30-degree helix angle and 2-flute spiral configuration, the C42199 promotes smooth chip evacuation and consistent surface finishes. It carries a 1/2-inch shank diameter and a 4-1/8-inch overall length, fitting standard milling machine and CNC spindle collets.
This end mill is intended for finishing operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. The double-end design extends tool life by providing a second cutting end, reducing per-edge cost in production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals typically use this style of ball end mill for contouring, slot milling, and 3D profiling on vertical mills and CNC machining centers. The uncoated HSS construction is appropriate for lower-speed cutting applications and materials that do not demand coated carbide tooling.
Designed as a standard ball end mill replacement for applications requiring a 1/2-inch diameter, 1/2-inch shank, double-end HSS tool in the HD-2B series. Primary workpiece materials include cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel.
Installation is performed by qualified machinists using appropriate collet chucks or end mill holders rated for the 1/2-inch shank diameter. The machine spindle must be fully stopped and the machine powered down before changing tooling. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating to ensure accurate ball-nose profiling. Follow shop speeds-and-feeds data for HSS tooling on the specific workpiece material being cut.
