The CLEVELAND C42116 is a single-end ball end mill designed for finishing operations in metalworking applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS), it features a 0.3125-inch cutting diameter, a 0.75-inch length of cut, and a 2-flute spiral configuration with a 30-degree helix angle. The right-hand cutting and right-hand flute direction make it compatible with standard vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers. The uncoated HSS construction provides reliable performance in ferrous and cast iron workpieces where moderate heat resistance and edge sharpness are priorities. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in production and job-shop environments.
The C42116 is suited for finishing passes on cast iron and steel workpieces in both manual and CNC milling setups. The ball-nose profile generates contoured and radiused features, making it appropriate for die cavities, mold work, and complex three-dimensional surface finishing. The regular-length designation and 3/8-inch shank diameter fit standard collets and end mill holders found in most light-to-medium duty vertical mills and machining centers. It is not designed for extended-reach applications and does not support coolant-through delivery.
Designed as an OEM-style tooling solution for standard 3/8-inch collets and end mill holders used in vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials listed by the manufacturer are cast iron and steel.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's setup procedures. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before inserting or removing the tool from the collet or holder. Verify runout with a dial indicator after seating the shank to minimize premature tool wear. Do not exceed the recommended depth-of-cut for the workpiece material and tool diameter.
