The CLEVELAND C42072 is a double-end, square-profile high speed steel end mill designed for material removal and finishing operations on milling machines and CNC machining centers. With a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 13/16 inch length of cut (0.8125 inches), and a 4-1/8 inch overall length, this tool fits standard 1/2 inch collets and arbors. The two-flute, spiral-flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and suits slotting, peripheral milling, and plunge cutting. Center-cutting capability allows direct plunge entry without a pre-drilled hole. The uncoated HSS construction is field-sharpenable and well-suited for general-purpose shop use.
This end mill is rated for primary use on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. The Series HD-2 designation indicates a heavy-duty two-flute design intended for conventional and CNC knee mills, bed mills, and vertical machining centers in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional spindle rotation. The straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates side-lock holders for secure grip during interrupted or heavy cuts.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement or direct-application end mill for milling machines and machining centers accepting a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical or Weldon-flat shank, within the Cleveland HD-2 series for regular-length two-flute applications on cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and steel workpieces.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully stopped and the machine is in a locked-out, de-energized state before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the collet or side-lock holder and torque the retention hardware per the holder manufacturer specification. Inspect the cutting edges for chipping or wear before each use; do not operate a damaged tool.
