The CLEVELAND C41718 is a 2-flute, square-end, single-end mill manufactured from high speed steel (HSS). It carries a 0.5 inch cutting diameter, a 2 inch length of cut, and a 4 inch overall length with a 0.5 inch straight-cylindrical shank that also accommodates a Weldon flat. The spiral flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle promote efficient chip evacuation across a range of metalcutting applications. The tool is uncoated and center-cutting, allowing both plunge and peripheral milling operations. It belongs to Cleveland's HG-2 long-series lineup and is installed by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in manual mills and CNC machining centers.
This end mill is suited for milling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in both roughing and finishing passes where a long-reach tool is required. The long-series length makes it appropriate for deep-pocket work, slotting, and profiling operations where a standard-length tool cannot reach. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation are standard for conventional milling setups. The uncoated HSS construction is well-suited for lower-speed applications, regrinding programs, and shops that run a variety of workpiece materials without specialized coatings.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard offering for 0.5 inch collet chucks, end mill holders, and Weldon-flat set-screw holders used in manual knee mills and CNC vertical machining centers.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully powered down and locked out before tool changes. Ensure the shank is fully seated in the holder to the recommended engagement depth and that set screws are torqued per the toolholder manufacturer's specifications. Inspect the tool for chips or cracks before each use. Follow shop safety protocols and applicable OSHA standards for rotating cutting tools.
