The CLEVELAND C41636 is a 2-flute, high speed steel square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in machine shop and production environments. Built on the HG-2 series platform, it features a 7/8 inch cutting diameter with a 1-1/2 inch length of cut and a 3/4 inch straight-cylindrical shank with a Weldon flat for secure tool holding. The right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute geometry with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is an uncoated, centercutting tool, meaning it can be used for plunge cuts as well as peripheral and slot milling.
This end mill is suited for machining cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in manual and CNC milling applications. At 4-1/8 inches overall length with a regular-length configuration, it fits standard tool holders and collet chucks commonly found on knee mills, bed mills, and machining centers. The straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates side-lock tool holders for added rigidity in heavier cuts. It is intended for use by machinists, tool-and-die makers, and maintenance technicians performing slotting, profiling, and facing operations.
Designed as a standard-shank replacement or direct-use end mill for milling operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and steel workpieces. Compatible with 3/4 inch collet chucks, ER collet systems, and side-lock Weldon-flat tool holders rated for that shank diameter.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine in a full-stop, locked-out condition per applicable shop safety and OSHA lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the shank is fully seated and the Weldon flat is properly aligned with the set screw in side-lock holders before torquing. Verify runout with a dial indicator after tool installation to minimize premature wear and surface finish issues. Cutting parameters such as speed, feed, and depth of cut should be selected based on workpiece material, machine rigidity, and coolant availability.
