The CLEVELAND C41628 is a 2-flute square end mill designed for material removal and profiling operations in machine shop and manufacturing environments. Built from high speed steel (HSS), it features a 3/4 inch cutting diameter, a 1-5/16 inch length of cut, and a 1/2 inch straight-cylindrical shank with a Weldon flat for positive drive in collets and end mill holders. The 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and reduces cutting forces. This is a right-hand cut, right-hand flute tool in the HG-2 series, intended for machinists and toolroom operators running manual or CNC milling equipment.
The C41628 is suited for slotting, peripheral milling, and step milling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. Its centercutting geometry allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece, which expands its usefulness across profiling and pocketing operations without the need for a pre-drilled lead hole. The uncoated HSS construction makes it a practical choice for general-purpose work where re-sharpening is preferred over disposable tooling.
Designed for use with standard 1/2 inch end mill holders, collet chucks, or Weldon-style side-lock holders on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel as specified by the manufacturer.
Installation is performed by a machinist or toolroom professional. Power down and lock out the spindle before seating or removing any end mill. Ensure the Weldon flat is properly aligned with the holder's set screw to prevent tool pullout under load. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning production cuts, particularly in tight-tolerance applications.
