The CLEVELAND C41609 is a 2-flute square end mill designed for metal removal in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Built from high speed steel (HSS), this end mill features a 5/16-inch cutting diameter, a 9/16-inch length of cut, and a 3/8-inch straight-cylindrical shank with a Weldon flat. The 30-degree helix angle promotes smooth chip evacuation, and the centercutting geometry allows for plunge milling as well as conventional side milling. With a 2-1/2-inch overall length and regular length classification, this tool fits standard end mill holders and collet chucks used in manual and CNC milling machines.
This end mill is suited for machining cast iron, non-ferrous metals such as aluminum and brass, and steel. The uncoated HSS construction makes it a practical choice for general-purpose roughing and finishing passes where re-sharpening is preferred over coated carbide tools. It is commonly used in job shops, maintenance facilities, and production environments on knee mills, vertical machining centers, and similar equipment. The Series HG-2 designation indicates a standard general-purpose geometry optimized for a broad range of workpiece materials.
Designed for use on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel workpieces. Compatible with standard 3/8-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-style set-screw holders used in vertical milling machines and machining centers.
Installation and tool changes should be performed by a qualified machinist with the spindle fully stopped and machine power isolated. Secure the Weldon flat against the set screw in the tool holder to prevent axial pullout under cutting loads. Inspect the shank and holder bore for chips or damage before seating the tool. Follow the machine manufacturer's recommended RPM and feed rate guidelines for HSS tooling in the workpiece material being cut.
