The CLEVELAND C41396 is a 4-flute, square-end, single-end mill manufactured from high speed steel (HSS). It carries a 0.75 inch cutting diameter and a 4 inch length of cut, placing it in the extra-long category for reaching deep pockets and shoulders. The straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accepts standard end mill holders and set-screw toolholders. A 30-degree right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes chip evacuation and stable cutting action. The uncoated finish is suited for applications where regrinding and reconditioning are part of the tooling maintenance cycle. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals select this geometry for profiling, slotting, and peripheral milling operations.
The C41396 is rated for cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel workpiece materials, covering the majority of general machining and job-shop applications. The centercutting design allows plunge entry directly into a workpiece face without a pre-drilled hole, making it useful in mold and die work, fixture machining, and production runs where full-depth slotting is required. The extra-long reach length makes it appropriate where standard-length tools cannot access deep cavities or tall workpiece setups. It belongs to the Cleveland HG-4C series, a straight-shank general-purpose HSS end mill line.
Designed for use in standard 0.75 inch end mill holders, Weldon-flat set-screw holders, and compatible milling chucks. Rated for cast iron, non-ferrous metal, and steel workpiece materials per Cleveland HG-4C series specifications.
Install in a clean, properly sized end mill holder and torque the set screw against the Weldon flat per the toolholder manufacturer's specification. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cutting, as excessive runout reduces tool life and surface finish quality. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the machine is powered down before changing or adjusting tooling. Follow applicable shop safety standards and machine tool operating procedures when handling HSS end mills, as cutting edges are sharp.
