The CLEVELAND C40073 is a 3-flute square end mill engineered for precision milling in non-ferrous metals and similar materials. Built from powdered metal (PM) with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) finish, it delivers extended tool life and improved wear resistance compared to standard high-speed steel tooling. The cutter measures 0.375 inches in diameter with a 0.750-inch length of cut and a 2.5-inch overall length. A 42-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. This is a single-end, centercutting tool, meaning it can be fed axially into a workpiece for plunge operations in addition to standard peripheral and slot milling.
The C40073 is suited for milling non-ferrous metals including aluminum, brass, copper, and similar materials where TiCN coatings provide an advantage. The 0.375-inch straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat is compatible with standard end mill holders and set-screw style tool holders used on vertical machining centers, knee mills, and CNC milling machines. Its regular-length classification makes it a practical choice for general-purpose face, slot, and contour milling operations where rigidity and reach are balanced.
Designed as an OEM-style replacement and standard production end mill compatible with 0.375-inch straight-shank end mill holders and Weldon-flat collet chucks used on conventional and CNC milling machines.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or tooling technician. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the tool holder and torque the set screw against the Weldon flat according to the tool holder manufacturer specifications. Verify runout with a dial indicator before beginning a cut to confirm proper seating and minimize premature tool wear.
