The CLEVELAND C39708 is a 3-flute square end mill designed for material removal and profiling in demanding machining operations. Built from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) finish, this tool delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS. It has a 0.375-inch cutting diameter, a 0.75-inch length of cut, and a 0.375-inch straight cylindrical shank that also accepts a Weldon flat holder. At 2.5 inches overall length, it fits standard milling chucks and collets on knee mills, CNC machining centers, and manual Bridgeport-style machines. Machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers.

This end mill is suited for slotting, side milling, and profiling in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. The HG-3 series is a regular-length design, making it appropriate for general-purpose production work where rigidity and access to confined features are both considerations. Its centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry, enabling both ramping and straight plunge operations without a pre-drilled pilot hole.

Installation Notes

Inspect the TiCN coating and cutting edges before use — chipped edges on HSS tooling should not be reused on production cuts. Speeds and feeds should be set per the applicable machining data for the workpiece material and depth of cut to avoid premature tool wear.
