The CLEVELAND C39690 is a 3-flute, single-end square end mill designed for material removal and profile milling in ferrous and non-ferrous machining applications. Manufactured from high speed steel (HSS) with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, it delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The 1-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1-7/8-inch length of cut, a 30-degree helix angle, and a spiral flute geometry that promotes efficient chip evacuation. The straight cylindrical shank with Weldon flat accommodates standard end mill holders and set-screw toolholders. This is a center-cutting tool, allowing direct plunge entry into workpiece material where required.
The C39690 is suited for milling operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in job shop, maintenance, and production environments. The regular-length HG-3 series profile makes it a practical choice for general-purpose slotting, profiling, and peripheral milling. Its right-hand cut and right-hand flute configuration is compatible with conventional CNC machining centers and manual knee mills running standard spindle rotation. The 3-flute design balances chip clearance and surface finish, making it appropriate for both roughing passes and light finishing cuts depending on depth of cut and feed rate selection.

Installation is performed by machinist or toolroom personnel following standard toolholder torque and runout verification procedures. Power down and lock out the spindle before inserting or removing the end mill from its holder. Confirm shank seating depth and Weldon flat alignment with the set screw before tightening. Inspect the cutting edges and TiN coating for chips or wear before each use; a damaged end mill should be removed from service immediately.
