The CLEVELAND C39681 is a single-end, three-flute square end mill designed for general-purpose milling operations in machine shops and manufacturing environments. Ground from high speed steel (HSS) stock and finished with a titanium nitride (TiN) coating, this tool delivers improved surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated HSS. The 0.5-inch cutting diameter pairs with a 1-inch length of cut and a 0.375-inch straight-cylindrical shank with Weldon flat. A 30-degree helix angle and spiral flute geometry promote efficient chip evacuation. The centercutting geometry allows direct plunge entry into the workpiece.
This end mill is suited for milling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in conventional CNC machining centers and manual knee mills. The HG-3 series designation places it in a regular-length category, appropriate for face milling, slotting, and peripheral milling operations where reach is not a limiting factor. Right-hand cut and right-hand flute orientation follow standard spindle conventions. Typical users include machinists running production runs or prototype work on steel and aluminum components.
Designed to fit standard 3/8-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, and Weldon-flat set-screw holders used on CNC machining centers and manual milling machines. Rated for use in cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel workpiece materials per Cleveland HG-3 series specifications.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's tool-holding torque and runout specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and the control is in an e-stop or tool-change state before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully in the holder and engage the Weldon flat set screw squarely against the flat to prevent axial pullout under load. Verify runout with a dial indicator before production cutting when tolerances are critical.
