The CLEVELAND C39068 is a 2-flute, high speed steel square end mill designed for precision milling operations in ferrous and non-ferrous materials. Built to Series HG-2 long-series specifications, it features a 5/16 inch cutting diameter, a 1-3/8 inch length of cut, and a 3/8 inch straight-cylindrical shank with a Weldon flat for secure tool holding. The right-hand cut and right-hand spiral flute geometry promotes efficient chip evacuation. Center-cutting capability allows plunge entry directly into the workpiece. This tool is installed and operated by machinists and tool-and-die professionals on manual mills and CNC machining centers.
The C39068 is suited for slotting, profiling, and contouring operations on cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel. Its long-series length of cut makes it appropriate for deeper cavity work or applications where standard-length tooling does not reach. The uncoated high speed steel construction makes it a practical choice for lower-speed general-purpose machining where HSS performance and regrindability are preferred over carbide tooling.
Compatible with cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel workpiece materials as designated by material codes K, N, and P. Fits standard 3/8 inch collets, Weldon-style side-lock holders, and end mill holders on manual knee mills and CNC machining centers.
Installation and tool changes must be performed with the machine spindle fully stopped and locked out per applicable machine-specific lockout/tagout procedures. Ensure the Weldon flat is properly aligned with the set screw in the tool holder to prevent axial pull-out under cutting loads. Verify runout after installation before initiating cutting operations. Speeds and feeds should be selected based on workpiece material, depth of cut, and machine rigidity in accordance with the tool manufacturer's published cutting data for HSS end mills.
