The CLEVELAND C39049 is a double-end, two-flute square end mill manufactured from high speed steel with a titanium carbonitride (TiCN) finish. At 0.125 inches in diameter, it is sized for finish milling, slotting, and profiling in tight geometries. The right-hand cut, right-hand spiral flute design with a 30-degree helix angle promotes efficient chip evacuation and smooth cutting action. Centercutting geometry allows the tool to plunge directly into the workpiece. The HD-2 series designation indicates a stub-length configuration, which improves rigidity in short-reach applications. Installation and use require a compatible 0.375-inch shank holder or collet.
This end mill is suited for milling cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel in light to medium machining operations. The stub length-of-cut range and small diameter make it a practical choice for detail work in die and mold cavities, fixture plates, and small-part production. The TiCN coating increases surface hardness and reduces friction compared to uncoated HSS, extending tool life on abrasive workpiece materials. The double-end configuration provides a second usable cutting edge, reducing per-edge tooling cost in production environments. Machinists and tool-and-die workers in job shops and manufacturing facilities are the primary users of this tool.
Designed for use in standard 0.375-inch end mill holders, collet chucks, or Weldon-style side-lock holders on vertical machining centers and manual milling machines. Suitable for cutting cast iron, non-ferrous metals, and steel per the manufacturer specification.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist or toolroom technician. Ensure the spindle is fully powered down and the machine is locked out before changing tooling. Confirm the holder bore and collet size match the 0.375-inch shank before seating the tool. Do not exceed the manufacturer-rated depth of cut or feed rate for the workpiece material; refer to the HD-2 series cutting data chart for recommended parameters.
