The CLEVELAND C38971 is a 2-flute high speed steel keyway end mill designed for precision finishing operations in metalworking applications. It features a TiCN (titanium carbonitride) coating that improves wear resistance and extends tool life compared to uncoated HSS tooling. The cutting diameter is 5/8 inches with a matching 5/8 inches straight shank that includes a Weldon flat for secure tool holding. Length of cut is 1-5/16 inches, overall length is 3-1/4 inches, and the helix angle is 30 degrees. This end mill is centercutting, allowing plunge entry into the workpiece. It is used by machinists and tool-and-die professionals in CNC and manual milling operations.
This end mill is suited for finishing cuts on cast iron, steel, and non-ferrous metals. The Weldon flat shank is compatible with standard end mill holders and side-lock holders used in vertical mills and machining centers. The 2-flute configuration and keyway geometry make it appropriate for slotting, keyway cutting, and profiling operations where chip clearance and side-wall finish are priorities. It is part of the CLEVELAND HG-2K series.
Designed for use with standard 5/8 inches end mill holders and side-lock Weldon-flat tool holders in vertical milling machines and CNC machining centers. Primary workpiece materials are cast iron and steel; secondary workpiece material is non-ferrous metal. Part of the CLEVELAND HG-2K series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist following the machine tool manufacturer's tool-holding specifications. Ensure the machine spindle is fully stopped and locked out before inserting or removing the end mill. Seat the shank fully into the holder and tighten the set screw against the Weldon flat to the holder manufacturer's torque specification. Inspect the cutting edges and TiCN coating for chips or wear before each use.
