The CLEVELAND C38950 is a 2-flute, high speed steel keyway end mill designed for precision milling operations where keyway slots and finishing cuts are required. The tool features a titanium nitride (TiN) coating that improves surface hardness and lubricity, extending tool life in ferrous and cast iron applications. With a mill diameter of 0.875 inches, a 1.5-inch length of cut, and a 30-degree helix angle, this end mill delivers controlled chip evacuation and smooth surface finishes. The straight shank with Weldon flat provides secure tool holding in standard milling chucks and collet systems. Licensed machinists and tool-and-die professionals are the primary installers of this tool.
This end mill is suited for finishing passes in ferrous materials including steel and cast iron. The spiral flute geometry and 30-degree helix angle make it effective for keyway slotting in shaft work and precision fixture machining. The centercutting design allows plunge entry, expanding its usefulness in die-sinking and interpolation operations. Typical applications include CNC vertical mills, manual knee mills, and machining centers running steel and cast iron workpieces at controlled feed and speed parameters appropriate for high speed steel tooling.
Designed for use in steel and cast iron workpieces. Compatible with standard straight-shank tool holders and collet chucks accepting a 0.367-inch shank diameter. Part of the CLEVELAND HG-2K series.
Installation should be performed by a qualified machinist familiar with tool-holder torque requirements and runout tolerances. Ensure the spindle and tool holder are clean and free of debris before seating the Weldon flat shank. Set spindle speed and feed rate appropriate for high speed steel tooling in the target workpiece material before engaging the cut. Do not exceed the rated length of cut to avoid deflection or tool breakage.
